On June 27, the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of BYD’s electric bus plant in Komárom, Hungary, was held. Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, and BYD Europe Commercial Vehicles Managing Director Zhang Daochun attended and delivered speeches. Chen Yiwei, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, and István Joó, CEO of Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, were also present.
Ambassador Gong Tao stated that the expansion of BYD’s electric bus plant in Hungary marks not only a milestone in the company’s development but also a vivid example of the practical cooperation between China and Hungary. Whether in advanced manufacturing sectors such as automobiles and batteries or emerging industries like telecommunications and logistics, Chinese investments in Hungary have been accelerating, injecting strong momentum into Hungary’s economic growth, technological innovation, and employment development.
Minister Szijjártó emphasized that investments from China are crucial for Hungary, highlighting that Hungary-China cooperation presents an opportunity rather than a risk for Hungary’s industrial development. He noted that BYD’s rapid growth ensures Hungary’s continued leadership in Europe’s advanced electric vehicle manufacturing sector.
The expansion project will include the construction of a new state-of-the-art production facility covering 29,000 square meters, creating over 600 new jobs. |
